        Who are PFD?

Plastic-Free Dunfermline are a small, local unincorporated community group run by passionate volunteers who care about the environment. We have a committee that meet regularly to discuss developing the group, planning events and working towards making Dunfermline a 'Plastic-Free Community'. We couldn't manage without the amazing people who help out at our events. Thanks to you all.

These days most people know about the havoc that plastic pollution is creating on the environment. Programmes like David Attenborough's 'Blue Planet' have shown us how marine creatures are dying from entanglement in plastic or by unintentionally swallowing it. If you want some more facts about the problem with plastic pollution click here.

Half of the plastic produced today is packaging that is used only once. Much of this single-use packaging is unnecessary and has been produced to make our lives easier. However this convenience comes at the expense of the environment. Reducing this plastic takes a little extra effort and time but it is worthwhile. To encourage people to tackle the crisis that is plastic pollution we started Plastic-Free Dunfermline.

        Plastic-Free Dunfermline's aims:

        • Raise awareness about plastic and plastic pollution and the harm it is having on the environment and on humans.
        • Encourage people who live in and around Dunfermline to refuse, reduce or reuse single-use plastic by offering ideas for food, toiletries, cleaning and when you are out and about. On top of this we have made a useful list of places to shop.
        • Make Dunfermline one of Scotland's first 'plastic-free communities', an initiative run by charity Surfer's Against Sewage. We have been working with local businesses, local schools and community groups and achieved this in January 2021.
        • Run and attend events in Dunfermline to connect with the community and join our powers to fight against single-use plastic.

We also host a Facebook group which is a forum where you can tap into the knowledge and experience of our wonderful community of like-minded people.

For questions about recycling plastic refer to Fife Council's website.
